Home court advantage did not help this time. Rytas Vilnius (0-1) took its first loss against Greek team, Peristeri Athens (1-0) that concluded gameday 1 action in Group E of FIBA Champions league.

Peristeri took the initiative from the first minutes of the game by having 9 points lead after a couple of minutes since the start of the game, 11-2. Despite this fact, Rytas bounced back. The main figure of the comeback was Rytas guard Mindaugas Girdziunas, who managed to hit even five straight three pointers until the end of the first half. The result after the first two quarters was tie 51-51.

Everything changed in the second half. Rytas gave up its initiative once again and after the third quarter the result was 71-80. It was the middle of the fourth quarter when Rytas managed to get to Peristeri a little bit closer once again but the phenomenal performance by Peristeri’s guard Steven Gray ended it all. Rytas lost the game with a final result on the scoreboard 88-106.

Chris McCollough led all Rytas scorers with 22 points and 8 rebounds, meanwhile Mindaugas Girdziunas posted 15 points and Demetrius Jackson added 14 points and 6 assists.
